“The Troy Area Labor Council stands with pro-worker candidates who share its commitment to support working families in Troy and across Rensselaer County,” said Sean Collins, Troy Area Labor Council President and delegate from Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 200United. “We are particularly excited to endorse two of our very own delegates: Kimberly Jensen, a Public Employees Federation delegate, and Greg Campbell-Cohen, a Workers United Upstate/SEIU delegate. We look forward to working alongside all of our endorsed candidates and their campaigns to reach out and mobilize union voters over the coming weeks and months in the lead up to the fall general election.”

The Council also voted unanimously to prioritize three candidates and provide additional support to their campaigns. If elected, Jona Favreau and Greg Campbell-Cohen would likely determine control of the Troy City Council. Additionally, if elected, Kimberly Jensen would break the total control of the Republican Party in the town of Brunswick.

"I'm honored to receive the endorsement of the Troy Area Labor Council, an organization that understands the power of collective action and community-driven progress," said Jona Favreau. "As the Democratic and Working Families Party candidate for District 5, I'm committed to working for equity, public investment, and a future that puts people first."

"I am proud to be endorsed by the Troy Area Labor Council, a historic institution of the AFL-CIO that has been fighting for Troy's working class since 1881," said Greg Campbell-Cohen, Democratic and Working Families Party Candidate for District 6. "Troy is a worker city and it's time for our City Council to reflect that."

I am so grateful and honored to be endorsed by the Troy Area Labor Council, a strong voice for everyday working people. Brunswick is home to smart, educated, hard working families who care deeply for our community and who deserve a high quality of life,” said Kimberly Jensen, the Democratic Party Candidate for Brunswick Town Board. “I will advocate for residents to get what they have worked so hard for. Our town government must do more to preserve our quality of life through responsible development, transparent decision making, and respectful discourse on the direction Brunswick is going.”

Candidates seeking endorsements were invited to submit questionnaires and to meet with the Labor Council to discuss their candidacies. The questionnaire was distributed to both the Rensselaer County Democratic and Republican Committees, individual City and Town Committees for both parties, and to the Rensselaer County Conservative Party and Capital District Working Families Party, with the request that the questionnaire be distributed to all candidates for local office. Only those candidates who completed a questionnaire and met with the Labor Council’s Political Action Committee for an interview were eligible to receive its endorsement.

The Troy Area Labor Council will actively support its endorsed candidates for office and will mobilize, along with its affiliates, to share information on pro-worker candidates with union members in Troy and across Rensselaer County.
