Resolution in Support of Starbucks Workers United's Starbucks Boycott

Whereas Troy Area Labor Council is comprised of democratically elected delegates to support all workers in their fight for fair contracts, safe workplaces, and union representation, and

Whereas Troy Area Labor Council strives to make our communities better for all people by advocating for social and economic justice, and

Whereas Starbucks workers are seeking a fair, reasonable contract that would provide better pay, better staffing, enough hours to earn a living and qualify for benefits, and stronger workplace protections, and

Whereas the labor movement has a proud history of supporting workers engaged in collective action and collective bargaining struggles and recognizes that an injury to one worker is an injury to all workers, and

Whereas Starbucks has become the largest labor law violator in modern United States history, including repeated unlawful conduct against workers exercising their right to organize, and

Whereas Starbucks Workers United has called for a boycott of all Starbucks products from labor siblings, and

Whereas SEIU, AFL-CIO, New York City Central Labor Council, and countless other labor organizations have joined in solidarity with Starbucks Workers United in support of this boycott, and

Whereas when workers take on one of the biggest corporations in the world, they shouldn’t have to do it alone, 

Be it resolved that Troy Area Labor Council will publicly support Starbucks Workers United in their pursuit of a fair contract, calling upon all delegates to stand in solidarity, and

Be it also resolved that Troy Area Labor Council will boycott all Starbucks products in their business dealings, ensuring that no Council monies are paid to Starbucks while the boycott persists. 

Be it also resolved that Troy Area Labor Council will send this resolution as adopted to Starbucks Headquarters,

Be it finally resolved that this boycott shall remain in effect until Workers United/SEIU and Starbucks reach and ratify a fair union contract that addresses workers' demands for fair wages, adequate staffing, sufficient hours, workplace protections, and respect on the job.
